A 15-year-old male has been slapped with charges related to a string of robberies, the Chicago Police Department reported. The juvenile was nabbed by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on May 14, on the South Side of Chicago, in what appears to be a swift move by the CPD to curb rising incidents of vehicular-related theft.
The young offender, whose identity is being withheld due to his minor status, is accused of participating in two separate robbery incidents earlier this year. According to the Chicago Police Department, the first crime took place on January 8, 2024, at around 11:25 p.m. at a retail establishment, located in the 5600 block of W. Irving Park Rd.
Within minutes of the first alleged theft, the teen is said to have hit another location, this time in the 2400 block of N. Milwaukee Ave., adding yet another felony count to his rap sheet as per the Chicago Police Department. The tight-lipped CPD hasn't released additional details surrounding the arrest, or the specifics of the items stolen during the robberies.
The arrest was the outcome of collaborative efforts among the officers of the specialized Vehicular Hijacking Task Force, a group presumably focused on tamping down vehicular crimes in Chicago. The suspect, now facing serious felony charges at a tender age, was placed into custody and will be processed through the juvenile justice system. It remains unclear what motivated the teen to allegedly commit such brazen acts of theft, or if he acted in consort with others.
