Residents of Dakota County looking to responsibly discard of their celebratory graduation yard signs can breathe a sigh of relief. The Dakota County Western Service Center is offering a free graduation sign recycling program, running through August 15, according to Dakota County's official website. No need to mistakenly throw the signs into the regular recycling, where they don't belong.

The service center located at 14955 Galaxie Ave., Apple Valley, is set to graciously accept these signs during regular business hours, as per Dakota County. Officials are looking to make sure that the rigid, corrugated plastic and metal stakes, which are designed to quickly and temporarily adorn lawns across the county, find their way to becoming something new, rather than pile up in landfills. It's an effort to inadvertently help reduce waste by providing a specified spot for disposal.

For those unsure of where to drop these items, the Western Service Center promises an easy solution. "Look for the labeled box in the Western Service Center lobby," the county's website instructs. While corrugated plastic signs and metal stakes are welcome, other materials such as stretchy plastic, cardboard, or fabric signs will have to be recycled elsewhere.
