Minnetonka is getting another Chipotle, because apparently two burrito counters were not enough for the west metro city. The new restaurant opens Friday, giving the chain a third location in Minnetonka and bringing its Minnesota footprint close to 100 restaurants.
The restaurant is located on Plymouth Road near Ridgedale Drive and will be open daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to Bring Me The News. Chipotle expects the opening to create about 30 jobs locally.
A New Chipotle Without The Drive-Thru Lane
Unlike many of the chain's recent Minnesota openings, the new restaurant will not have a Chipotlane, the drive-thru lane used for picking up online orders. Chipotle's official location page lists in-store pickup and delivery for the Plymouth Road restaurant, which is currently marked as coming soon.
The company's Minnesota directory currently shows 97 locations statewide, making this opening another step toward the nearly 100-store mark highlighted in the company announcement. The chain's local locator also confirms the new Minnetonka storefront and its proximity to Plymouth Road and Ridgedale Drive.
Restaurant Joins Larger Minnetonka Redevelopment
The new Chipotle is part of a broader commercial redevelopment near Plymouth Road. A City of Minnetonka planning document described the site as a recent Wells Fargo redevelopment with two new buildings and five commercial tenant spaces, including a roughly 2,300-square-foot Chipotle.
For nearby residents, the practical appeal is straightforward: another fast-casual option, more pickup capacity and roughly 30 new restaurant jobs. The bigger takeaway is that Chipotle continues to add Minnesota locations even as this particular opening skips the chain's increasingly common online-order drive-thru format.
