Detroit can expect a rollercoaster of a weather week ahead, starting with a moderately sunny Sunday before a wet and thundery workweek takes hold, as per the latest forecasts. Today, Detroit residents will enjoy mostly sunny skies and a comfortable high of 69 degrees, while a gentle west-northwest wind shifts southwest later on. As we head into tonight, the clouds roll in, setting the temperatures to a low of around 58 degrees, and winds from the south picking up speed, the National Weather Service reports.
Monday will likely see Detroiters grabbing their umbrellas, with showers and possible thunderstorms entering the forecast after 5 pm. The temperatures might climb to a significantly higher 78 degrees, but accompanying that will be gusty southwest winds as high as 22 mph, so those umbrellas had better be sturdy. The National Weather Service pegs the chance of precipitation at a considerable 70%. "New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms," the service warns, a soaking cessation not expected for nighttime either.
Continuing into Tuesday, the rain isn't ready to say goodbye just yet, with showers mainly expected before 2 pm and highs reaching 67 degrees. The northeast wind will also be making its presence known, breezing through at 6 to 10 mph. The likelihood of dreary, wet conditions persists with an 80% chance of precipitation, and again new rainfall reaching between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, the forecast details.
The potential for a brief reprieve comes Tuesday night with just a 30% chance of showers before 8 pm. The overnight period should see temperatures drop to a low of around 51 degrees, and it's likely to be breezy, according to forecast data. But as under the mostly sunny Wednesday that follows, citizens can look forward to a warmer day with a high near 71 degrees. And while Wednesday night is pegged to be mostly clear with a low around 48 degrees, Thursday starts the cycle anew with sunny skies and a balmy high near 73 degrees, the National Weather Service predicts.
Yet, forecasts hint at showers creeping back into the picture Thursday night, possibly after 2 am. Friday continues the trend with intermittent showers and partly sunny conditions, ushering in highs near 76 degrees. Detroit won't be ditching the raincoats for the weekend either; Saturday stays inconsistent, pairing chances of showers with partly sunny skies and similar highs around 76 degrees. With a weather pattern rivaling the unpredictability of a tossed coin, this week's forecasts suggest Detroiters prepare for both sunshine and rain.
