Douglas County Youth Commission Chairman and high school standout Andres Garcia has bagged the 'Youth Leadership of the Year Award' from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG). The New Manchester High School senior was honored at Association of County Commissioners of Georgia's Annual Leadership Conference in Savannah, solidifying his rep as a rising star in community leadership, as per a recent release from Douglas County.
Recognized for his exceptional leadership skills and extensive involvement in community and school activities, the Association created the award, aiming to spot and honor the firecrackers among Georgia’s youth that show potential for community greatness. In addition to participating in Future Business Leaders of America and leading the Student Ambassadors as President, Garcia was steering the ship of the Douglas County Youth Commission as its Chairman for the 2023-24 class. Garcia, while juggling these roles, scored the Entrepreneur Award.
Showing leadership chops beyond his years, Garcia was recognized for "the spirit of leadership and service" he has consistently brought to the table, said Tiffany Stewart-Stanley, Douglas County Assistant County Administrator and Chief of Staff. Stewart-Stanley praised Garcia's "passion, drive, and commitment to making a positive difference in our community," according to Douglas County.
Garcia isn't just flying high in the leadership realm; the high-flying student is set to graduate in the top 10% of his class and has been offered nearly $500,000 in scholarships. He's decided to keep his feet off the ground, aiming for a degree in Aviation Science and Management at Middle Georgia State University, with hopes of ascending as a pilot, focusing on fixed-winged aircraft flight.
