An elderly man has met a grisly end, stabbed to death in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood, close to the bustling shops and restaurants of Lindbergh Plaza. Atlanta Police Department confirmed the incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, around 1:30 p.m., where the 69-year-old victim was discovered with fatal stab wounds near the CORE at Lindbergh apartment complex, as reported by Atlanta News First.
Described as a quiet afternoon turned nightmare, witnesses were shocked by the sudden violence. One bystander captured a photo of the alleged assailant fleeing the scene, described as a tall black male with a gray t-shirt, and orange shoes, according to statements obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. The area, known for its rise in homelessness, has not been known for such brutal acts of violence before now.
The Atlanta Police Department is on the hunt, piecing together what led to the altercation that led to a man losing his life. Though a possible suspect has been detained in the vicinity, no identification has been released to the public at this time. Lt. Andrew Smith from the Homicide Unit informed that the victim and the suspect were both unsheltered and allegedly involved in some type of argument prior to the stabbing.
Local resident Angie Lee-Montante told FOX 5 Atlanta, "It was horrific," recounting the event she witnessed while exercising in the neighborhood. "We were working out, and we started walking up the street when we randomly saw this poor man get stabbed." The suspect's identity remains unknown, but efforts to track him down have enlisted K-9 units to canvas the area.
In the aftermath, residents express growing concerns for safety. "It really just puts into perspective whether it’s even safe to walk down the street at 1 p.m.," expressed Lee-Montante in a FOX 5 Atlanta interview, echoing the unease that now blankets a community shaken by the daylight murder.
