A drug overdose incident jolted the Near West Side area as five individuals, comprising four men and a woman, were rushed to hospitals following what was reported, by the Chicago Police, as a possible overdose situation in an apartment on South Throop Street Monday night.
The emergency responders arrived at the scene in the 1300 block of South Throop Street around 9:30 p.m and immediately transported the individuals to Rush Hospital and University of Illinois Hospital, detailed the Chicago Sun-Times, citing a Chicago fire department spokesperson, Larry Langford declared that four of the patients were in serious condition while one was reported as fair; at the hospital, the quintet underwent detoxification procedures.
While the local police spokesperson, Kellie Bartoli, was meticulously sparse on details, the case was swiftly categorized as "non-criminal" and closed by Area 3 detectives according to the Chicago Sun-Times; a neighbor, who remained unnamed, noted the flurry of ambulances but was left in the dark as to the gravity of the incident unfolding.
With the investigation ongoing, the Chicago Tribune added that officers were called in for a "possible overdose," and the Chicago Police have yet to release further information on the victims or the substances involved—it remains unclear what led to the mass overdose event.
