A joyride turned tragic on Monday when a golf cart carrying five children flipped in Parkland, leaving three injured and one facing serious injuries, authorities said. The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department reported that the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at 5800 Hillsboro Boulevard near State Road 7. "One of the children was rushed to Broward General Medical Center as a level 2 trauma patient," Mike Moser, deputy chief of the fire department, disclosed to Parkland Talk.
While it has yet to be determined how to quickly provide full details, authorities did confirm that no other vehicles appeared to be involved. The accident has raised concerns about the safety of minors operating such vehicles, which are often perceived as harmless. Two other children sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals, as per the fire department's deputy chief.
The remaining two passengers were released to their parents at the scene. As the community grapples with this unfortunate event, the conditions of the injured children have not been disclosed.
According to WSVN, the accident happened along West Hillsboro Boulevard. The Parkland police have begun to thoroughly investigate what led up to the golf cart to tip over, in hopes to prevent such incidents in the future.
