An 88-year-old passenger died nine days after a two-vehicle crash at a busy Delray Beach intersection, with Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office investigators confirming that Moshe Levy succumbed to his injuries on October 15 at Delray Medical Center. The crash happened the evening of October 6 at Hagen Ranch Road and Lake Ida Road, when a turning SUV was struck broadside by an oncoming vehicle with the right of way.
According to CBS12, an 83-year-old woman driving a 2019 Lexus was headed southbound on Hagen Ranch Road and waiting in the left-turn lane at Lake Ida Road under a flashing yellow arrow. A 33-year-old man driving a 2021 Lexus NX300F was traveling northbound with a green light when the turning SUV crossed into his path, and his vehicle struck the passenger side of the turning Lexus. Sheriff's investigators later identified the turning driver as Lea Levy and the northbound driver as Johnny Nguyen of Delray Beach, noting that all three occupants, including Moshe Levy, wore their seatbelts during the collision, per BocaNewsNow.com.
Crash Physics and Timeline
The crash unfolded in seconds but left investigators with a detailed physical record. The collision occurred at 7:11 p.m. on October 6, causing both vehicles to spin counter-clockwise before the Lexus RX350 came to rest facing north inside the intersection and the Lexus NX300F stopped facing south in the northbound lanes, according to The Boca Raton Tribune. Both drivers were transported to Delray Medical Center along with Moshe Levy, the 88-year-old passenger, and the drivers sustained only minor injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to be factors in the crash, the Tribune reports. Moshe Levy died at the hospital at 1:03 p.m. on October 15, roughly a week and a half after the impact. Delray Medical Center, where all three occupants were taken, is a state-designated Level I Trauma Center with 536 licensed beds and a rooftop helipad, making it the primary emergency trauma receiving facility for southern Palm Beach County.
What the Flashing Yellow Arrow Requires
The flashing yellow arrow was present as the turning Lexus crossed the path of the northbound vehicle.
The intersection where the crash happened, Hagen Ranch Road and Lake Ida Road, is in unincorporated Delray Beach, per the Tribune's reporting. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division is continuing to review the crash.
Senior Driving Rules and Countywide Crash Trends
The ages of those involved touch on a broader regulatory question in Florida. State law requires drivers 80 and older to undergo mandatory vision screening at every license renewal, with renewal intervals shortened from eight years to six years once a driver turns 80, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Examinations or road tests may also be considered in investigations involving unsafe drivers.
Statewide, drivers 65 and older represent roughly 12 percent of total vehicle crashes in Florida but are involved in about 20 percent of fatal crashes, per data compiled by Nolo. Locally, Palm Beach County averaged roughly 70 crashes a day in 2025, according to Baker & DiSalvo. The sheriff's traffic division continues to investigate the Hagen Ranch Road crash.
