Early Wednesday morning, a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 240 resulted in the death of four individuals and left another injured. According to the Memphis Police Department, the tragic incident unfolded at around 1:40 AM on the westbound section of I-240 near the vicinity of Poplar Avenue, as reported by FOX13 Memphis.

Initial reports indicate that a Dodge Durango was traveling on the wrong side of the interstate, subsequently colliding head-on with a Subaru Outback. The Dodge then went on to also strike an Acura TLX. The incident forced the closure of westbound lanes for several hours, as emergency crews and police attended to investigate and clear the somber scene. WREG added that the lanes near Poplar and Walnut Grove have since been fully reopened to traffic.

The driver of the Dodge, alongside the driver and two passengers of the Subaru, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura was transported to Baptist East in a non-critical state, according to Action News 5. MPD has not released the identities of the deceased or the survivor of this fatal crash as of yet. This stretch of I-240 has been recently marred by tragic events as this accident occurred merely a half-mile away from a fatal shooting that took place the preceding night.
