A Greene County man faces charges of attempted first-degree murder following a shooting that occurred on Memorial Day, leaving another man critically injured. According to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to a home on Bear Hollow Road on Monday evening where they discovered 42-year-old Nathan Poe with multiple gunshot wounds. Poe was subsequently airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center and listed in critical condition, as reported by WJHL.
The shooter, identified as 68-year-old Claude "Junior" West, allegedly fled the scene before the deputies found him but were apprehended in the neighboring Hawkins County shortly afterward. While the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, authorities have confirmed the arrest of West, who is being held on a $400,000 bond in the Greene County Detention Center, a detail confirmed by WVLT.
The incident shook the quiet community as fears arose over the increasing rate of gun violence, with this being one of several shootings in the area this year. Officials have scheduled West to appear in the Greene County Sessions Court on May 29, according to WBIR.
