A potential tragedy was averted at a Memphis corner store when a quick-thinking woman intervened as a man aimed an assault rifle at another patron. The near-violent encounter took place at the Saver Stop Corner Store on South Parkway East in South Memphis, where surveillance footage captured a man entering with a weapon supplied to him by an accomplice in a parked blue Ford Edge.

According to Action News 5, the gunman passed by a man in a yellow vest, only to turn and aim the firearm at him as he walked out the door. However, his attack was thwarted when a woman sitting at a nearby gaming machine leaped up and grappled with him for control of the gun. During the scuffle, both the intended victim and the woman managed to exit the store unharmed.

The Memphis Police Department is currently on the lookout for the man and woman involved in the attempted assault. WREG Memphis reported that authorities responded to the incident at the Saver Stop Ex on Tuesday afternoon, but no arrests have been made yet.
