A tragic collision involving an LAPD patrol car and a Nissan Altima claimed the life of a pedestrian and injured six others late last month in Hollywood, authorities said. The Los Angeles Police Department has released footage from the incident which took place at the intersection of Gower Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. According to the video footage, the patrol car, after stopping at a red light, turned on its emergency lights and entered the intersection, resulting in the devastating chain reaction crash.

The LAPD details that, upon entering the intersection at roughly 3:50 p.m., the patrol car was blindsided by a silver Nissan Altima that was traveling west on Santa Monica Boulevard. The impact caused the police vehicle to veer off and strike a pedestrian who was crossing the street, before colliding with a stationary Mercedes Benz. "The pedestrian sustained significant trauma and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," police informed, as stated in KTLA.

The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services, with the Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arriving on the scene to treat the injured. The police report obtained by KTLA indicates that in addition to the fatality, six others were involved in the accident and sustained minor injuries, all of whom were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The LAPD confirmed the involvement of their patrol unit and a Mercedes Benz, whose driver had been waiting at the traffic signal at the time of the collision.

Investigations have been launched by the LAPD's specialized Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) to decipher the circumstances leading up to the crash. An update shared on  LAPD YouTube channel posted a detailed account of the traffic incident, including the immediate aftermath, where rescue ambulances were summoned to assist and evaluate the pedestrian's injuries. The Los Angeles community mourns a tragedy that underscores the unpredictability and fragility of life on its bustling streets.
