Good fortune struck for a Fairview, Illinois, man who turned a routine visit to the supermarket into a life-changing jackpot. Kevin Weaver, whose ordinary day turned extraordinary, purchased a scratch-off lottery ticket that carried a cool $1 million prize. Weaver bought the golden ticket at County Market in Farmington, a mere 20 miles west of Peoria, according to WGN-TV.
Scratching the ticket in his truck, Weaver found himself in utter disbelief. "I scratched the ticket in my truck in the parking lot of County Market, and I was in complete shock when I saw that I had won a million dollars," he said, as per FOX 32 Chicago. Doubt, a familiar companion to tales of unexpected windfalls, led him to provide proof to his wife, Paula. His victory was solidified by the lottery app that confirmed the win. Their exchange, undoubtedly wrought with a blend of incredulity and joy, ended with plans for indulgence and practicality alike.
The winning scratch-off titled "$40 Million Mega Bucks" promises what its name suggests—bucks, and lots of them. With his newfound wealth, Weaver shared with WGN-TV his intent to vacation in Aruba, a trip that could have been a sweetened memory, for it was where he had planned to propose initially.
Local business County Market, the accidental architect of Weaver's fortune, will not be left out; a $10,000 bonus is in store for having sold the lucky ticket. While Weaver did joke about marital bliss with the phrase "happy wife, happy life," his wife’s happiness driving her grandkids around will soon be elevated by the comforts of a new vehicle.
