A man was fatally shot early Wednesday in North Memphis, with police scrambling to apprehend the suspects linked to the deadly encounter. The Memphis Police Department, responding to a call at around 3:30 a.m. on the 2500 block of Heard Avenue, discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rapidly transported to Regional One Health, where he was declared dead, as reported by Local Memphis.

Although three individuals were initially detained in connection with the incident, their current status in the investigation remains ambiguous. Police are currently on the lookout for a white Maxima, believed to quickly have been used to flee the scene after the shooting, Action News 5 disclosed.

Further details emerged when the family of the victim suggested that he might have been ambushed while taking out the trash. This particular street, Heard Avenue, had seen police activity earlier that day when the Memphis Police responded to a confrontation involving the same victim. During that initial disturbance, no one was harmed, as per a WREG report.

A previous altercation that night, detailed by MPD, involved a heated exchange between a woman, her current boyfriend, and an ex-boyfriend. "Oh, it’s on," the ex-boyfriend allegedly declared, after he was told of "being disrespectful." The woman's current boyfriend, who is the deceased, then witnessed the suspect rush to a white vehicle, grab a gun from an accomplice, and open fire. No one was injured, WREG reported.

Memphis Police have not confirmed if the gunman in both incidents is the same individual. The investigations into the shooting and the earlier reported threat are ongoing.
