A man was seriously injured in a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago late Sunday night and later sought help at a nearby McDonald's, authorities reported. According to CBS, the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition after he reported being shot on the expressway around 11:30 p.m.
The Illinois State Police arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting was reported in the northbound lanes near 31st Street. A vehicle with a bullet hole was later found at the McDonald's parking lot at 25th Street and King Drive, indicative of the desperate search for aid that the injured sought after the incident, Illinois State Police said.
Pending the investigation, the Chicago Fire Department confirmed the man’s condition but did not release further details about his injuries. The northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan were temporarily shut down between 31st and 45th streets as officers combed the area for evidence, eventually highlighting the recovery of a shell casing near the 33rd Street bridge, according to information detailed by ABC7 Chicago.
Authorities have not yet disclosed if any suspects are in custody or the possible motive behind the shooting, leaving the public with few details about what precipitated the roadside violence. While the expressway has since been reopened, the investigation continues as police look into the circumstances that led to this harrowing event. Any witnesses or individuals with information are being encouraged to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
