A Marengo woman, aged 29, sustained serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision on Illinois Route 176 at Union Road last Thursday morning, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The crash, which occurred at approximately 10:13 a.m. in unincorporated Union, involved a 2021 Dodge Durango and a 2001 International Dump Truck.
Reports indicate that the Durango was heading west on Route 176 when the Dump Truck, traveling north on Union Road, failed to stop at the stop sign. The truck subsequently struck the Durango, both vehicles eventually coming to rest off-road, but in an upright position. In a statement obtained by the McHenry Sheriff's Office, the victim was promptly flown to Condell Medical Center, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
The 41-year-old Mundelein man operating the International truck refused medical care at the scene, appearing uninjured. Both drivers were reportedly wearing seatbelts, and authorities have indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The absence of traffic controls on Route 176 at the intersection where the incident took place has been duly noted in the report.
