Maricopa Unveils Celebration of the Arts Coloring Contest for All Ages with Enticing PrizesSource: City of Maricopa

Maricopa's creative spirits, it's time to briefly set aside your digital devices and to dust off those crayon boxes – the Celebration of the Arts: All-Ages Summer Coloring Contest has officially arrived in the city. In what marks a vibrant nod to community unity and artistic expression, the newly-released “Greetings from Maricopa” coloring book is now the centerpiece of a contest that's catching the eye of residents across the age spectrum, from eager preschool scribblers to the more seasoned hands of adult colorists. The coloring book, a labor of love and local pride by Maricopa Unified School District veteran Daniel Sturgeon, is available courtesy of the Maricopa Library & Cultural Center, backed by generosity from local sponsors.

From June 2 through July 31, Maricopans are being enticed to grab their coloring tools – be it the trusty crayon, the fine-tipped marker, or the artist's brush – to festively fill in one of three Maricopa-themed illustrations. As detailed on the city's website, downloadable pages include iconic motifs like the City Seal, soaring Hot Air Balloons, and the wild majesty of Maricopa's Wild Horses. Only one submission per person is permitted, so making that mark count is key.

For those aching to see their artwork pay off, there's no shortage of incentive, thanks to Exceptional Health's donation of prizes catering to different age brackets. Preschoolers could scoot off with a new scooter, while the K-2 crowd is vying for a bike, and third to fifth graders could snag an LCD Drawing Pad. The prizes scale up as participants age up, with Prisma Colored Pencils and Copic Markers at stake for the older kids, and adults stand to gain an Arts & Craft Store Gift Card.

Maricopans have until July 31, to submit their pieces of potential prize-winning artistry to the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center or send them in by mail. Bear in mind – all those submitted masterpieces will become the proud property of the City of Maricopa, a small price to proverbially pay for a shot at local fame. Winners will get their time in the sun the week of August 12, when the city announces whose coloring skills cut above the rest.
