As Memphis grapples with fluctuating weather patterns, residents are facing a volley of severe storms punctuated by brief respite periods. According to the National Weather Service, the city will endure showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day, with a 90% chance of precipitation and the potential for some storms to grow severe.

The unsettled weather continues into the night with a significant chance of continued showers and thunderstorms. New rainfall is projected to be less than a tenth of an inch, however, higher amounts are expected during thunderstorm activity. The overnight low will be around 70 degrees with calm winds from the south southeast.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast suggests a pattern of storms likely to occur both during the day and night. According to the NWS report, Friday night may bring showers and thunderstorms likely before 7 pm, followed by showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 7 pm. Residents should expect a low of around 70 degrees with a 60% chance of precipitation, which could bring new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch.

On Saturday, there’s a predicted 40% probability of thunderstorm activity again, with partly sunny skies and a high near 86 degrees. The evening carries the threat of more showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 am, with a slight increase in the low temperature to around 72 degrees. For those with outdoor plans for the upcoming Memorial Day, there's a small respite with the weather turning sunny and a high near 84, but, there will still be a lingering 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm.
