In a startling theft incident, a man identified as Marcus Nixon has been arrested and is now facing serious charges after allegedly hijacking a silver 2017 Audi A4 with a one-year-old child inside, according to Memphis police. The harrowing event unfolded at a Getwell Road gas station last month, when the child's father, temporarily leaving the vehicle unattended to pay for gas, returned to a parent's worst nightmare: his car, and his baby, vanished.

First responders were called to the Getwell Express gas station in Southeast Memphis on April 23. Police said that the car was found two miles away on Outland Road with the child safely seated in the back, Action News 5 reports. WREG added that Nixon, who is only 18 years old, was taken into custody last Thursday and has been charged with kidnapping and theft of property valued between $10,000-$60,000.

Fingerprints on the car's gas door and video footage were pivotal in identifying Nixon as the suspect. One video, according to court records, showed Nixon removing the nozzle from the fuel fill port prior to entering the car and driving away with it. FOX13 Memphis recounted that following the retrieval of the car, it was towed to the crime scene for further examination.
