The incident occurred outside a residential building off NW 76 Street just west of North Miami Avenue, as confirmed by CBS News Miami. Miami Fire Rescue received a distress call about the blaze around 4:40 a.m., which led to four cars being destroyed and a fifth substantially damaged.
Caught in the sudden inferno were two cars that belonged to Roy Puckett's mother. Puckett, disturbed by his dog barking and knocks at the door, was met with the fiery chaos once he stepped outside. "My dog was barking and I heard a knocking on the door and stuff and I came outside and both of my mom's cars were on fire. I didn't know what to do so I just called 911," Puckett told CBS News Miami. Despite the alarm, Puckett did not report seeing anyone around or observing anything he would describe as suspicious.
In the aftermath of the fire, authorities are scrutinizing the scene to determine the origin and cause. Whether fueled by an act of arson or a mechanical failure, the investigation remains in its youth, per a statement by Miami fire investigators to CBS News Miami. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Additional witness reports have emerged, suggesting that five cars were damaged by the blaze, including two that were entirely consumed by the fire. This figure has yet to be verified by officials, according to an account provided by NBC Miami.
