
Minneapolis residents can expect a damp Memorial Day with a high chance of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms starting in the late morning. Today's weather forecast predicts an 80 percent chance of precipitation with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, although thunderstorms may bring higher amounts, according to the National Weather Service.

The unsettled weather is set to continue into the evening, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. The skies will be mostly cloudy and temperatures are expected to drop to a low of about 51 degrees, while northwest winds will blow at a mild 5 to 10 mph. The rest of the week looks brighter, with Tuesday ushering in a 20 percent chance of showers before 4 p.m. and a return to mostly sunny conditions with highs near 65 degrees, as per the National Weather Service.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook issued earlier this morning cautioned that scattered thunderstorms are expected to impact central and southern Minnesota and west central Wisconsin. Officials have also warned of the potential for strong to severe storms in the far southern part of Minnesota, particularly near Interstate 90, where damaging wind gusts may occur.
As the week progresses, the forecast shows improvement with no hazardous weather expected from Tuesday through Sunday. Temperatures are on a warming trend, rising from the low 70s on Wednesday to the upper 70s by Sunday. Thursday brings back a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., and similar conditions are expected Friday with partly sunny skies and a high near 75, as the National Weather Service reported. The weekend will continue to see a chance of showers and thunderstorms but will remain mostly sunny with highs maintaining in the 70s.
