Minneapolis residents should be on alert for a mix of weather conditions starting today and running through the next week, according to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen, MN. The latest forecast for Minneapolis predicts isolated showers and thunderstorms earlier today, followed by mostly sunny skies with a high near 81 and gusty winds potentially reaching 25 mph. The chance of rain is fairly slim at 20%, but this could be just the calm before a stormier pattern rolls in.
Evening plans look to be in good shape as skies clear up with lows dipping to around 54 degrees. However, Sunday ushers in a more precarious forecast. There is a 30 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., with clouds on the increase, and temperatures peaking near 77 degrees. The wind, still remaining a factor, is expected to pick up throughout the morning.
According to the forecast published on the National Weather Service's website, the start of the workweek won't bring much relief. Monday could see a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 76 degrees, while the winds shift from south southeast to northwest in the afternoon.
Things look to potentially worsen by Tuesday, with a 70% chance of thunderstorms and possibly heavy rainfall slated to hit the area. "New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible," the National Weather Service warns. Tuesday night remains unsettled as well, and the rest of the week doesn't offer much reprieve, featuring chances of showers and partly sunny to mostly cloudy conditions brushing against the high 60s.
The city is not just facing thunderstorms and rainfall; fire weather conditions are also on the radar. "Afternoon humidity values falling to around 20 percent and west
winds gusting 20 to 25 mph will lead to elevated fire weather conditions across western Minnesota this afternoon," the National Weather Service cautions in a hazardous weather outlook. For the rest of the week, thunderstorms and shower chances remain in the forecast, with the potential for heavy rainfall that can lead to rises in local area rivers.
Residents should keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. While it appears that the region will be spared any critical weather events today and tonight, the upcoming week promises a mixed bag of possible storms, showers, and significant rainfall.
