As Mother's Day approaches, Phoenix mothers in need have something special to look forward to. Nourish Phoenix, a community organization known for offering a helping hand throughout the year, is stepping up its efforts to shower moms with a little extra love and attention. Hundreds of purses filled with necessities and cosmetics are ready for the taking this Mother's Day weekend, as reported by ABC15.
The event, dubbed the "pack-a-purse" giveaway, started at 8:30 a.m. Friday and was scheduled to run until 11 a.m., with no other qualification necessary except to show up at 501 S. 9th Ave. in Phoenix. These purses not only contain hygiene products but also include treats many moms are certain to enjoy, just by showing up, including some branded as designer bags.
According to a statement obtained by FOX10 Phoenix, Nourish Phoenix is working on more than just handing out purses. "Every mom wants to feel pampered," said Beth Fiorenza, Executive Director of Nourish Phoenix. "We take care of everyone else and not ourselves, so hopefully, there is something in the purse that they'll love."
Adding a layer of luxury to their compassionate gesture, Nourish Phoenix has partnered with Blossom Beauty College to offer free haircuts and makeup for moms. Claudia, a student at the beauty school, and a busy mother herself, talked about understanding the struggle of finding time for self-care. Running from 8:30 to 11 a.m., the mothers picked up the purses already happy, made special by the simple act of a free haircut, can have transformative emotional effects. "It's just a simple haircut, but for some people, they don't have the money or time," Claudia told FOX10 Phoenix. "When you see them when they're done, it just brings so much joy."
Nourish Phoenix has a year-round collection of items for such events and is in constant need of volunteers, food, clothing, and hygiene products, especially laundry detergent. Aside from the Mother's Day event, Nourish Phoenix offers a variety of educational classes ranging from crochet and yoga to Zumba and financial education.
