Over 30 Vehicles Engulfed in Flames at Insurance Auto Auctions Lot in Jupiter, Prompting InvestigationSource: Facebook/Palm Beach County Fire Rescue

A car lot on Corporate Road South near Jupiter, Fla., turned into an inferno early Thursday morning when over 30 vehicles were engulfed in flames. Authorities say a compromised car battery ignited the fire around 3:15 a.m. at the Insurance Auto Auctions lot, a space filled with used, repairable, and salvaged vehicles waiting to be auctioned off.

Fire officials did not take long, approximately 45 minutes, to tackle the flames, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. In a statement obtained by WPTV. They noted that no other structures were affected by the blaze, and, luckily, there were no reported injuries. The fire's rapid spread was attributed, to how tightly packed the vehicles were in the lot.

This fire-raising incident is currently under investigation, but fire officials have suggested that the cause was accidental. Calls initially came in for an explosion which officials later clarified were likely just tires popping in the intense heat. This detail was reported by WPBF 25 news.

Importantly, this was an ordinary car fire, not caused by an electric vehicle. "To be clear -- this was not a Tesla -- or another kind of electric car," said a fire rescue spokesperson. Insurance Auto Auctions, the business where the fire occurred, is situated in a largely rural area dotted with warehouses and is known for dealing with vehicles in various states of wear and ownership transition.
