Tragedy struck in Paulding County where an 11-year-old boy, Zander Whatley, was fatally shot inside his home as violent gunfire erupted. According to Atlanta News First, the dreary event took place around 11 p.m. on April 30, at the Whatley residence on Ruth Way. The young boy, a 5th-grade student at Hal Hutchens Elementary School, tragically became an innocent victim of circumstance when he was struck by bullets while attempting to run upstairs for cover after a group of boys opened fire from outside the family home.
Osman Sesay Jr., 18, has been captured in connection to the murder, with authorities securing his arrest during a traffic stop in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 11. He is slated to be extradited to Georgia to directly face the consequences of this brutal act. Meanwhile, there are still two suspects at large, namely Al-Hamid Ibrahim Kuyateh and Nazier Lloyd Anderson, both 19 years old. The duo are labeled as armed and dangerous, and the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, in concert with the United States Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, are actively on the hunt to swiftly bring them into custody.
Details provided by FOX 5 Atlanta reveal that Zander Whatley’s family suspects this violent attack could be linked to one of the older Whatley siblings, believed to have been the intended target after mixing up with the wrong crowd. In a heartbreaking call to action, Whatley's mother, Shareeda Dorsey, pleaded, "You took a piece of my heart that will never be healed," imploring the suspects on the run to "Just turn yourself in to give my baby that rest, to give us all a little peace, and let him rest in peace."
