A somber series of events unraveled at the Tennessee property of country music icon Loretta Lynn this past weekend, resulting in the death of a pedestrian during a large motorcycle event. Kellie Goodman, 55, from South Carolina, was identified as the victim who met a tragic end after being struck by a motorcycle ridden by Daniel Heman, 34, from Indiana.
As thousands flocked to the seventh annual Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival, the celebratory spirit was sharply undercut by the Friday incident that occurred around 5:30 p.m. Heman was maneuvering his Harley Davidson when he collided with a golf cart, which had swerved to avoid a pothole. After the initial collision, the motorcycle then landed on Goodman as she was walking across the road. NewsChannel9 reported that Heman, nor the three individuals aboard the golf cart, sustained any injuries.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Humphrey’s County Sheriff’s Office are looking into the crash. The driver of the golf cart was not injured and is facing no charges. WSMV noted that despite Heman claiming he hadn’t had anything to drink, the responding trooper detected signs of impairment, including the odor of alcohol.
Heman’s charges were escalated to vehicular homicide following Goodman’s passing in a Nashville hospital due to the injuries sustained. Initially, Heman was charged with driving under the influence and vehicular assault, with a bond set at $102,000, as reported by NewsChannel5. The bustling festival at the ranch, marked as Tennessee's largest gathering of motorcyclists, was darkened by the fatal event while continuing through the weekend.
