
Early Tuesday morning, a shootout in south Phoenix left a police officer seriously injured and a suspect dead. The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and Southern Avenue, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. Following the confrontation, both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital, where the suspect later died from the sustained injuries.

As per the same report, the condition of the wounded officer is serious yet stable, with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The suspect's identity was not provided, and police have not offered details about what precisely sparked the shooting.
Meanwhile, the surrounding area of Southern Avenue was sealed off between 7th and 13th Streets to allow investigators to work the scene, resulting in interruptions for the morning commute, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. Residents were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
ABC15 added that details leading up to the shooting remained unclear, while live video from the scene showed a heavy police presence. The police department has not yet commented on the events preceding the altercation.
