In a harrowing brush with tragedy, a Rhode Island State Police cruiser was struck head-on after a driver, who suffered a seizure, lost control of his vehicle in Lincoln on Friday. The crash, reported by NBC10 Boston, occurred as the trooper was heading westbound on the Twin River Road overpass near route 146.
The wayward vehicle began drifting into oncoming traffic, prompting the trooper to promptly activate his lights in warning. Despite these efforts, the car crossed the center line and collided with the cruiser as the driver underwent the medical crisis. The police have not yet released additional details about the incident.
Following the collision, the state trooper took immediate action to aid the stricken driver, a 24-year-old man from Massachusetts, by breaking the window of the car to extract him from the wreckage. This effort was underscored by WJAR, which also reported on the event.
After being rescued from the damaged vehicle, the driver was transported to Miriam Hospital for treatment. The condition of the driver and updates on his recovery have not been made available at this moment. The trooper involved was not reported to have sustained any injuries in the collision.
