Graduates of Roxbury Community College gathered to mark a significant milestone at the institution's 48th Annual Commencement. Suffolk County Sheriff and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for RCC, Steven W Tompkins joined Interim President Jackie Jenkins-Scott to honor the graduating class of 2024. The day's festivities were highlighted by Boston's own Emmy Award-winning anchor Latoyia Edwards of NBC10 Boston and NECN, who served as the Commencement Speaker. Edwards, known for her compelling storytelling, imparted words of wisdom to the graduates. Among those recognized for their contributions, were Reverend Liz Walker, a former journalist turned humanitarian and minister, along with Founding Artistic Director of OrigiNation Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga, and artist Roberto Chao. Each was honored for their positive impact and service to the community.
In a tradition of musical inspiration, singer Athene Wilson took the stage, continuing her streak of performances at RCC commencements. Her voice, once more, served to uplift and unite the assembly in a moment of communal pride and joy. Meanwhile, peer-selected student James Anderson took the podium to deliver an address representing the collective achievements and aspirations of his fellow graduates, as they prepared to embark on varied and promising paths.
