Authorities in Springfield made a significant bust on Cloran Street, netting trafficking weights of illicit substances and firearms yesterday, as detailed in a report released by the Springfield Police Department. The early morning raid, carried out at around 6 a.m., was a coordinated effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration's Springfield Resident Office and their New England Field Division Special Response Team, with local Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit members.
In the course of the raid, officers were quickly to spot a firearm being discarded from a window, a desperate attempt to likely distance themselves from impending charges. The home on the 100 block of Cloran Street had been under watch with Julio Romero marked as the primary subject of their investigation. The search warrant was a culmination of this surveillance and Romero's existing entanglements with the law – notably a Default Warrant from Holyoke District Court.
Inside the residence, a total of nine individuals were detained, four of whom were arrested including the aforementioned Romero, along with Jeremy Lebron, Anthony Pizarro, and Angel Cordero. Their ages ranged from 21 to 38 and their charges were a testament to the severity of the situation – trafficking and possession to firearm violations. Among the confiscated items were approximately 147 grams of cocaine, over 100 grams of suspected heroin, two illegal firearms, additional ammunition, a high-capacity magazine, and roughly $2200 in cash.
The Springfield Police Department's report details the charges leveled against the suspects, varying from trafficking a Class A to B Drug over 100 grams, to several counts related to firearms, such as possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, to carrying a firearm without a license. Additionally, Romero faces a charge of firearm violation with three prior drug/firearm convictions, painting a history of similar offenses.
