Springfield Man Charged with Multiple Offenses Following Crash, Shooting, and Break-InSource: Springfield Police Department

A Springfield man faces a slew of charges after a chaotic scene involving a car crash and a shooting on Longhill Street, police say. According to the Springfield Police Department, officers arrested 32-year-old Willie Dejesus early yesterday following the incident, which culminated in his apprehension after breaking into a home.

Police were alerted to a disturbance around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, with reports of a car crash and gunshots at the 200 block of Longhill Street. Responding to the scene, officers found Dejesus' car crashed on the lawn of a residence and detained the suspect after he was heard yelling from the second floor of the house. To get rid of a firearm, he broke a window and threw it outside before being tracked down in the backyard and admitting ownership of the vehicle.

The resident of the home was located by officers who cleared the premises, and they informed her that the invader was in custody. Dejesus reportedly confessed to shooting at individuals he claimed were following him, leading officers to discover four shell casings in and around the wrecked car.

Dejesus now faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He has also been slapped with charges of trespassing with a firearm, defacement of property, and breaking and entering for a misdemeanor.
