
A tragic farming accident claimed the life of a St. Clair County man after he was reportedly run over by his own tractor. Authorities were called to the scene in Greenwood Township, about 70 miles north of Detroit, following reports of an unresponsive man found by his son. The incident occurred on the evening of May 24, as confirmed by local law enforcement.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office told WWJ Newsradio, that the victim, a 57-year-old man was tilling a field on Logana Road when he tragically fell and was subsequently run over by the tractor he'd been operating. Despite the urgent response, the man was to quickly succumb to his injuries shortly after being rushed to Port Huron McClaren Hospital.
The man's 23-year-old son is said to have found him lying in the field, leading to the emergency call. The sheriff's office relayed to the Port Huron Times Herald that "Upon investigating the incident, it was determined that a 57-year-old Greenwood Township man had been tilling a field when he fell from and was run over by the tractor he was operating."
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities have, moreover, ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors to the fatal incident. "Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors," the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office stated in a release, as reported by The Detroit News.
