
Two teenage boys have been slapped with felony charges after a botched armed robbery that ended with one shooter accidentally hitting his accomplice on a Chicago train. According to the Chicago Police Department, the harrowing incident unfolded late Wednesday night in the city's South Side.
Police reports indicate that at 10:55 p.m., at the 6400 block of S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the two suspects were identified and arrested. The duo had apparently quickly gotten away with property from an 18-year-old male victim on the CTA train near East 63rd Street. During the crime, the 16-year-old male discharged a gun, unexpectedly striking his 17-year-old partner in crime.
The younger of the two faces a charge of one felony count for armed robbery with the discharge of a firearm. His comrade, the minor who was shot, was hit with one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm. The names of the juveniles have not been released due to their age.
Details from the police revealed that the altercation took a dangerous turn when the firearm discharged, swiftly turning a theft into a chaotic scene. Both were promptly taken into custody and are expected to face their charges in juvenile court. No further information has yet been released as the investigation continues.
