Charges have been slapped on a pair of young teens following a botched carjacking incident that left a 13-year-old girl with a bullet wound, according to Chicago police. The ordeal unfolded early Tuesday morning when the teens attempted to hijack a Kia SUV on the South Side of Chicago, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The Chicago police told the Tribune that the car's owner caught the kids in the act near the 8200 block of South Commercial Avenue, around 7:50 a.m. The confrontation escalated, and the owner shot the 13-year-old in the shoulder. The girl's 14-year-old alleged accomplice has been taken into custody and both face juvenile charges of attempting to possess a stolen vehicle and criminal damage to property. The injured girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she remains under medical care as the investigation continues. Court details for the juveniles have not been released.
WLS reported that the girl was shot in the right side of her body during the attempted theft and was in stable condition after the incident. Information from the Chicago police indicates that the two kids were aiming to take the SUV when the woman, a licensed firearm holder, fired at them, striking the girl.
