In the wake of gunfire that erupted at 1430 Desoto Street SW, three Atlanta Police Department officers were left in varying states of recovery. Ofc. J. Hodge, 28, after receiving treatment was released from the hospital last Sunday, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Officers D. Tabor and C. Smith, both 31, have undergone surgeries and remain at Grady Hospital, with Smith slated for an additional operation.
The officers were responding to a call about shots being fired, when they themselves fell victim to the chaos. Upon arrival at the scene the trio were met with bullets, which resulted in their rapid transport to Grady Hospital, where they were described as "alert, conscious and breathing." The Atlanta Police Department's last update revealed one officer was recently in surgery, while another, awake and talking, is bracing for another surgical procedure after his first was deemed a success.
Details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or information on potential suspects remain sparse as Atlanta Police Department continues its investigation. Media personnel have been directed to convene at Grady Hospital for subsequent updates.
