A 13-year-old boy was shot to death, and his sister wounded, in what police describe as a tragic episode of gunfire at a park in Bellevue, yesterday night.

The incident reportedly took place at Red Caboose Park near Bellevue Middle School around 8 p.m. when a skirmish broke out among teenagers. The young victim, Aayden Hayes, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to WKRN. Sadly, he passed away after being rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His 16-year-old sister, whose name undisclosed by police, was hurt in the shooting yet her injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

Authorities detained 15-year-old De’Anthony Osasosifo in connection to the shooting after a short pursuit. He was located roughly a half-mile from where the violence erupted. A K-9 officer from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unearthed a firearm along Osasosifo's path, which led to him being charged with criminal homicide, as WSMV reported.

Don Aaron, a Metro police spokesperson, pointed out that many of the teenagers involved in the initial argument were middle school students, calling it "a bad night for Nashville," according to Fox 17. He underscored the sheer ordinary setting, "This is a very popular park. Frankly, these are kids," Aaron said.

Emotions ran high on social media, with one user post on X lamenting the ongoing violence, "Bellevue, I am so sorry that there has been another fatality of our youth with firearms. Please either support me or work with the dark side to determine the direction of our community!!!! I am sick of children dying in the name of a redneck cause,” reads a tweet highlighted by WKRN.

Responding to the night's upheaval, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell released a heartfelt statement. "My heart breaks tonight for the families who experienced first hand the tragedy of gun violence in a park in Belleville. I am grateful to first responders who immediately rendered aid as well as the Metro police officers who quickly apprehended a possible suspect," O'Connell expressed, as mentioned across multiple news sources. The city now waits for more details as investigations continue in the aftermath of this devastating community event.
