A train collision in downtown West Palm Beach led to the arrest of one individual and created significant traffic disruptions during Friday's morning commute. West Palm Beach Fire Rescue reported that a cargo train struck an unoccupied vehicle near Banyan Boulevard and Quadrille Boulevard, which subsequently caught on fire, according to a WPTV article.
The fiery aftermath necessitated that firefighters to quickly extinguish the blaze. Due to the risk posed by a nearby section of the train carrying propane, they moved the charred vehicle down the tracks toward the Brightline station, CBS12 reported. Officials from the fire department stated that no one was present in the car during the time of the collision. Roads including Clematis Street, Banyan Boulevard, and three others were closed but later reopened at around 9:30 a.m.
Following the incident, the West Palm Beach police arrested one person for trespassing, as announced by police spokesman Mike Jachles. "One person was arrested on a trespassing charge," Jachles said, with information provided by WPTV. Further details regarding the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the vehicle being on the tracks were not immediately disclosed. An investigation into the collision is currently underway, noted by a post on X from the West Palm Beach Police Department.
