A Troup County High School senior has died following a traumatic car crash that left four other students injured, officials confirmed. The collision, which involved a high school students' car and a school maintenance truck, resulted in the tragic death of 17-year-old Mary Joy Moosman, mere days before her high school graduation.
According to the Troup County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred on May 16, around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Whitfield and Hogansville roads. A Dodge Ram 350, operated by the Troup County School, struck the teens' car on the rear of the passenger side, causing it to spin out of control. Two of the passengers, including Moosman, were ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries; they were airlifted to an Atlanta hospital for treatment, FOX5 Atlanta reported.
Moosman succumbed to her injuries four days later on May 20 at 11:34 a.m., as confirmed by the Troup County coroner. She was set to graduate with distinguished honors and had plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall. Her employment history included stints at Soloman's in LaGrange and Johnny's Pizza in West Point. Moosman's obituary highlighted her life in LaGrange, her education through local schools, and her attendance at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lanette, Alabama. Her funeral service was scheduled for May 23 at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
