Early Tuesday morning, tragedy struck at a DeKalb County motel where a man and woman were fatally shot. The DeKalb County Police Department responded to the Efficiency Lodge located at the 3600 block of Decatur's Flat Shoals Road after receiving reports of the shooting. Authorities have since been working the scene, as confirmed by FOX 5, who first noted the presence of investigators and the area marked off with crime scene tape.
The investigation began around 4:45 a.m., with details initially limited. According to neighbors, who spoke to FOX 5, a woman was believed to have been killed in the incident. Despite early reports suggesting the death of only one individual, it later emerged that, a man was also shot and pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Criminologists and detectives were spotted by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution gathering evidence at the motel scene which sits squarely in the Panthersville area. The parking lot, which was found strewn with shell casings, remains a focal point of the investigation.
As of yet, the DeKalb County Police have not released the identities of the victims nor have they shared insights on what may have precipitated this deadly shooting.
