Memphis Police Department has reported the arrest of two men for allegedly breaking into a train and attempting to heist valuable goods in Nutbush, Memphis. On May 18, the suspects, identified as Aaron Slepicka, 37, and Christopher Wolverton, were apprehended by police officers responding to a prowler call near 3650 Gray. The authorities stated that the individuals were observed removing property from a stationary train, according to WREG.
Upon discovery, the suspects reportedly scattered in various directions — with Slepicka allegedly carrying a set of golf clubs. The chase led to the recovery of stolen items along the tracks, including 10 boxes of Wilson golf clubs, valued at $2,000, two Torx paper towel dispensers, and 11 boxes of LCM chairs, valued at around $4,250. Moreover, "two mini refrigerators with an unknown value" were found, according to WREG.
The sting operation held up CSX railroad traffic as officers inspected the scene. A black bag containing bolt cutters, which the police say are "commonly used to bypass security measures on the containers," was also located. Slepicka, who is currently facing charges including burglary and theft, admitted to taking a box of the golf clubs from the train after waiving his Miranda Rights, as reported by WREG.
This incident marks a continuation in a series of boxcar burglaries affecting Memphis in recent months, leading to the arrests of several individuals for comparable thefts, including the theft of TVs and Nike shoes totaling in the tens of thousands of dollars. The railroad officials have since recovered their property, which had an estimated worth of approximately $5,000 in the most recent burglary. Despite these arrests, the ongoing trend suggests a concerning pattern of thievery targeting the railways in the area, causing disruptions and economic setbacks.
