Two women from Woodstock suffered severe injuries in a harrowing crash that flipped their car and left one ejected onto the street. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office reported that the accident occurred on Dean Street near Gayle Drive in what is being considered a sobering reminder of traffic dangers.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the 22-year-old driver of a 2003 Toyota Corolla and her 29-year-old passenger were traveling southbound on Wednesday morning when their vehicle swerved violently. It ripped off the left side of the road, then swung back to cut across into oncoming traffic, ultimately crossing over Gayle Drive and rolling over in a yard after slamming into a tree.
Authorities received a call about the incident at 10:45 a.m. and swiftly dispatched emergency personnel. On the scene, they found the passenger ejected from the car and the driver trapped inside. Rescue efforts had to forcibly extricate the driver, who was then airlifted to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition, while her passenger was initially transported by ambulance before being flown to the same medical facility, listed in critical condition.
Investigators are piecing together the events leading up to the crash, with early findings suggesting that neither alcohol nor speed were likely to have played a role. The driver was reportedly wearing her seatbelt, possibly saving her from being thrown from the vehicle like her companion who was not.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit is meticulously investigating the crash which has once again raised concerns about road safety measures and driver vigilance. As the community reels from the grim news, officials underscore the ongoing nature of their investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.
