A Memorial Day heist turned violent in Denton, Texas, left a 62-year-old military veteran stabbed and three young men behind bars. According to the Denton Police Department, two masked assailants stormed a convenience store on Teasley Lane, where the veteran was clerking, demanding cash before turning the robbery into an aggravated assault.
During the course of the robbery, one man, later identified as Julian Bustillos, 20, allegedly plunged a knife multiple times into the veteran's abdomen. They absconded with money, vaporizers, and a case of beer, fleeing the scene with a covert getaway driver, Edgar Cuevas, 20, who was found tampering with the vehicle's license plate prior to the robbery.
The victim, whose valor on the battlefield was traded for violence on a day meant to honor his sacrifice, was swiftly attended by emergency services and taken to a local hospital with injuries deemed non-fatal. Responding immediately to the call of duty, Denton Police launched an investigation that led to the capture of the suspects on Wednesday.
Working on a tip, detectives located the suspect's vehicle the following Wednesday. Ryan Alvarez, 20, of Argyle, was also charged in connection with the robbery, along with Bustillos and Cuevas, both from Denton. The trio, now cooling their heels in the City of Denton Jail, await a judge to set their bond, with charges of aggravated robbery hanging over their heads.
