The streets of Austin in Chicago were marred by gunfire over the weekend as multiple shootings left residents rattled and law enforcement seeking answers. Two separate shooting incidents resulted in injured victims and a death amidst a spate of handgun violence.
In the first incident, a 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were shot on the first block of South Lotus Avenue around 7:40 P.M. Sunday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police have disclosed no suspects in the shooting, and the hunt for the shooter is still to aggressively continue. Both men were hospitalized in fair condition, one at Mount Sinai Hospital and the other at Stroger Hospital.
Elsewhere, a late-night argument turned deadly when shots rang out on the 500-block of North Leamington Avenue just after 11:30 P.M. Saturday. One man was killed, and two others suffered injuries in the chaos. A 44-year-old man was fatally wounded and later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, suffering a critical gunshot wound to his eye. A woman, 27, walked herself to Loretto Hospital with a graze wound, as reported by ABC 7 Chicago.
Also injured was a 50-year-old man, who took several bullets to his back and arm. Yet, amidst the prevailing chaos, law enforcement found a handgun at the scene of this fatal shooting but has yet to take anyone into custody as investigations press onward. High tensions and unanswered questions linger as Area Four detectives are piecing together the events that led up to these tragic moments in Austin.
