Get ready for a weekend of detours and traffic jams, folks. The Arizona Department of Transportation is shutting down northbound State Route 143 between Broadway Road and Washington Street for some major pavement work. From 10 p.m. this Friday, May 17, all the way through to the wee hours of Monday, May 20 at 4 a.m., you'll need to find an alternate route, as ADOT warns.

But it's not just SR 143 that's getting a facelift – part of US 60 will be out of commission too. Looks like Eastbound US 60 will see closures between I-10 and Mill Avenue for the same time period, thanks to sign and barrier work. Imposing further frustration, the on- and off-ramps across both highways will be also off-limits. Motorists, you've been cautioned.

As for detours, northbound SR 143 commuters will be rerouted via westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway). Meanwhile, drivers heading to eastbound US 60 from I-10 have a bit more of a trek – they'll continue on I-10, switch to the santan Loop 202, and then take the Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to skip past the construction scene. And those going the other way will mirror this path in reverse.

Worried about making that airport flight on time? ADOT's handing out some advice for alternate routes to dodge the construction chaos. Try taking 24th Street from westbound I-10, or swing by Buckeye Road from southbound I-17, or the Sky Harbor Boulevard for a clear shot from the westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).

Remember, these detours and closures aren't to irritate – they're for something better down the road. And always keep in mind that Mother Nature or chance happenings might twist these plans even further. For the latest updates straight from the horse's mouth, grab their free mobile app, TheCurve, or visit their online Alerts section, as ADOT suggests. Plan ahead and travel safe!
