A high-speed chase through Los Angeles ended in a multiple-vehicle crash on the 405 Freeway last week, with one woman now facing a slew of charges. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, Lisa Ann Heflin was charged with 10 counts of assault upon a peace officer, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, amongst other offenses. Heflin is accused of leading police on a half-hour pursuit, involving Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and West Los Angeles, before reportedly colliding with multiple vehicles on the freeway.

District Attorney George Gascón, following the May 17 incident, said, "F."Running into a police vehicle and then fleeing, sparked the chase, which resulted in damage to five police cars, two civilian vehicles, and a tractor-trailer.

Heflin pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on May 22, and her preliminary hearing is set for June 20. While no significant injuries were reported, the chase suspect—if convicted—faces a potential maximum of over 22 years in state prison. Bail was set at $695,000.

Compounding the disruption from the chase, four officers sustained injuries, and one was hospitalized, as the chase suspect drove a white van against traffic on the 405, according to a Hoodline report. Crashing into parked cars and eventually a police vehicle, the pursuit spanned across Brentwood early Friday morning. It ended when the suspect struck a big rig and two other vehicles near Wilshire Boulevard.

Witnesses and the media observed the chase unfolding live, as Sky5 reporter Mike Case recounted for KTLA, "This is nuts. She’s chasing a black and white. She’s got a couple of other cars behind her … Look at this. This is just craziness." In the hectic scene that ensued, the woman, captured on aerial footage, turned around to pursue an LAPD car in a dangerous reversal of roles before persisting in her wrong-way sprint down the freeway. The aftermath caused extensive traffic delays, with most northbound lanes closed for hours.un
