
A tragic late-night demolition on an Elk Grove Village road claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman and left several others injured. Authorities responded to the violent scene at the intersection of Biesterfield and Meacham roads around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, where two cars—a Lexus and a Honda—had collided with disastrous consequences.
The woman from Des Plaines, driving the Honda, was pronounced dead at 12:33 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, noted in a report by the Chicago Sun-Times. The accident was reportedly caused after the Lexus ran a red light and struck her vehicle. This resulted in emergency services also having to quickly dispatch the injured to hospitals, with three juveniles from the Lexus being treated and released.
The Elk Grove Village Police Department confirmed the intersection remained closed to all traffic till about 8:30 a.m. while they began to piece together the events of the crash, as per Chicago Tribune details. The traffic unit is leading the investigation into the incident, with more information pending as they thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the wreck.
Residents woke to find their routine morning passage through Biesterfield and Meacham roads disrupted, as police marked the perimeter to meticulously gather evidence.
