A tragic blaze in Putnam County claimed the life of one woman and left a firefighter injured, officials said Friday.

The Putnam County Fire Department responded to the deadly incident shortly after 9:00 PM Thursday when a home on Walnut Road was engulfed in flames, FOX 17 reported. The emergency crew was dispatched with reports of a person trapped inside and upon their arrival, they discovered the residence was heavily involved in fire, firefighters bravely made entry through a window to rescue the victim, that firefighter sustained minor injuries during the rescue and was later released after being checked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

According to WKRN, the medics were able to regain a pulse and stabilize the victim, who was initially found without a pulse. However, en route to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, the victim's pulse was lost again and despite their efforts, the patient was pronounced deceased after being diverted to the nearest hospital.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called to assist with the fiery inferno that took a woman's life; this, as the Putnam County Fire Department, and the Baxter Fire Department teamed up to tackle the fire and the department reports the cause is currently unknown, WSMV noted. The identity of the woman who perished has not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
