Woodstock's finest are gearing up to educate the teens on the ins and outs of public safety. The local Police & Fire Departments are set to open their doors for the Summer 2023 Teen Public Safety Academy, running from Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 21, 2024. Aimed to give teenagers a deep dive into the inner workings of emergency services, the program is packed with an array of classes covering everything from handling active shooter situations to fire prevention techniques.
During this intensive five-day course, youngsters between the ages of 14 and 19 will get the opportunity to truly learn what it takes to safeguard a community. Participants are expected to be taken through a host of different scenarios and exercises designed not only to educate but also to highlight the day-to-day challenges faced by police and firefighters. According to the official announcement of the City of Woostock, some of the sessions include a CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter) seminar, criminal investigation procedures, K9 demonstrations, and even a behind-the-scenes look into the workings of the Cherokee County E-911.
The Academy location alternates, utilizing various public safety venues across Cherokee County, with daily operations centered at the Woodstock Police Department. In terms of logistics, it's a full day's commitment with activities kicking off at 8:30 a.m. and wrapping up at 4:30 p.m. Another benefit for the participants: no need to pack a lunch, as meals will be provided.
For those looking to join the ranks of this year's Teen Public Safety Academy, the application process has officially opened. Interested parties can either apply directly online or pick up a physical application from the Woodstock Police Department, located at 12453 Highway 92, Woodstock, GA 30188.
