
A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon last night. According to the Boston Police report, the arrest occurred after officers responded to a report of an individual brandishing a knife near Washington and Chilcott streets in the Jamaica Plain district.
The call, which came in around 6:36 PM, described a group of five juveniles threatening someone with a knife. Boston Police Department's E-13 (Jamaica Plain) officers were quickly to launch an investigation upon their arrival. They canvassed the area and soon after, stopped a group whose appearances were akin to the provided descriptions at the intersection of Montebello and Haverford streets. The subsequent frisking of one of the suspects led to the recovery of a knife.
The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, was charged and is scheduled to appear in Boston Juvenile Court. The nature of this incident has stirred conversations about youth violence and the presence of weapons among minors within the community.
